When the new 2024 Honda CR-V arrived last year, it was an instant smash, garnering a 10Best Trucks and SUVs prize. Honda’s small SUV has been re-added to our ranking of the 10 Best Trucks and SUVs for 2024. With plenty of usable room, agreeable driving dynamics, front- or all-wheel drive, a 190-hp turbocharged engine, and an optional 204-hp hybrid version, the CR-V delivers consistently good performance. That hybrid powertrain achieves a fantastic overall fuel economy of 40 mpg. Even in base form, the CR-V shines with a thick layer of current electronics and safety features that don’t overshadow the CR-V’s outstanding chassis.

What’s New for 2024?

For 2024, the Honda CR-V gains a Sport-L trim level, while starting prices rise across the board. The new Sport-L sits within the Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid trims and, like those two, is only available as a hybrid. With this fresh model level, all-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive available as an option.

The interior of the Honda CR-V is distinguished with a honeycomb-textured inlay that spans the majority of the dashboard and conceals the air vents. The steering wheel surrounds a partially digital gauge cluster with an analog speedometer and a 7.0-inch display that allows the driver to navigate through various informational menus. Honda claims says its front seats are meant to mitigate driver tiredness on lengthy trips and that the seated position of the refreshed CR-V has been enhanced. A spacious center console bin sits between the front-seat occupants, and reclining back seats with an extra 0.6 inch of rear legroom compared to the current CR-V.

The 2024 Honda CR-V vertical grille conceals a standard 190-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine. It is available with either front- or rear-wheel drive and an automatic transmission that is constantly variable (CVT). This configuration is standard on the LX, EX, and EX-L versions. The hybrid powertrain, which generates 204 horsepower by combining a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with two electric motors, is exclusive to the Sport and Sport Touring versions.

While the Sport can be bought with either front- or all-wheel drive, the Sport Touring comes standard with all-wheel drive. The Sport Touring Hybrid reached 60 mph in 7.9 seconds on our test track; the nonhybrid EX-L took a bit longer, finishing in 8.3 seconds. Most variants come with 18-inch wheels, with the Sport getting black ones. The Sport Touring has special black-painted 19-inch wheels.

The Honda CR-V drivetrain options pit 190-hp 1.5-liter gas engines against a 204-hp hybrid unit powered by a 2.0-liter and two electric motors. The front-wheel-drive CR-V with the supercharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder gets 28 mpg city and 34 mpg highway according to the Environmental Protection Agency, but the front-wheel-drive Sport Hybrid gets 43 mpg city and 36 mpg highway. Both the Sport Touring Hybrid and the nonhybrid EX-L scored 31 mpg on the real-world 75-mph highway fuel economy route.

Honda CR-V Safety Ratings and Driver Assistance Features

Every 2024 CR-V includes forward collision warning, automated emergency brakes, blind-spot and rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assist, and intelligent cruise control with lane-centering steering help as standard equipment. These are significantly better systems than the previous-generation CR-Vs and are solid for the segment, but they aren’t as well-executed compared to the ones found in the Tucson and Sportage (particularly the adaptive cruise control and steering assistance system).

2024 Honda CR-V Price and Trims

The price of the 2024 Honda CR-V ranges from $30,850 to $41,550, depending on model and options. The LX, EX, and EX-L trim levels of the CR-V are all gas-only versions. On the cheaper end, the front-wheel-drive CR-V Sport Hybrid is appealing. It is reasonably priced and achieves an EPA-estimated 43 mpg in the city, outperforming the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. The Sport Hybrid features a sleek black body, 18-inch black wheels, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The Sport Touring Hybrid is more pricey, but it includes all-wheel drive and a slew of luxury extras.
